How to Coupon at Walmart

If you pair Walmart’s low prices with a fat stack of coupons, what you get is a whole lot of cheap and free stuff. The store is a great place to shop for budget-conscious customers and offers almost everything in one place. And while there are many ways to save money at Walmart, you can save even more if you add coupons to the mix.

However, there is a catch. Walmart has a somewhat complicated Walmart Coupon Policy. The good news is that we’ve got you covered. We explain everything you need to know about couponing at Walmart.

Understand the Rules

The first step is to read and understand Walmart Coupon Policy to familiarize yourself with what is allowed and what isn’t. This will prevent problems at checkout, and allow you to maximize savings.

Here is a quick rundown of what you can or can’t do.

You can use checkout coupons, manufacturer coupons and printable coupons so long as they have a scannable barcode, an expiration date and remittance address. Print-at-home coupons for freebies aren’t allowed, but you can redeem your coupons for free items.

Buy-one-get-one coupons should specify price of items to be eligible. Printable coupons are acceptable, but the same isn’t true for photo-copied coupons.

Competitors’ Coupons
While they don’t price match other store, Walmart still accepts competitors’ coupons. This is a great way to make the best deals since the store strives to have the lowest prices. They take coupons from other stores’ websites and circulars as well as other stores’ register coupons that you got at checkout.

The main catch is that these coupons must have an expiration date. They should also be for a specific item at a specific price. If it is a buy one get a free item coupon, then it must include a specified price. Additionally, it shouldn’t be duplicated.

Coupon Overage

Walmart is one of the few stores that allow coupon overage. This is an area where coupons can really pay off. Overage occurs when the value of the coupon exceeds the price of the item. There are multiple occasions where this can occur. One of them is when you use a coupon on a product that’s on clearance or whose price has been reduced.
If you present a $2 coupon for a $1 item at Walmart, you will get the item for free and be allowed to keep the difference. You can either keep the difference in cash or have the store apply it to other items in your cart.

Coupon Apps to Score Moneymakers and Freebies

While Walmart doesn’t allow customers to stack coupons like other stores, you can take advantage of coupon apps like Checkout 51 and iBotta to save more. Look for opportunities to pair a rebate and a coupon for the same item, and you’ll be on your way to scoring all kinds of cheapies and freebies.

You may also end up earning some money if the combined value of the rebate and coupon exceeds the item price. Another thing you will love about coupon apps is that they sometimes have offers for milk and produce.

Manufacturers’ Coupons

Walmart also accepts manufacturers’ coupons. These can be found online, product packaging, magazines and newspapers among other places. Regardless of where you source them, manufacturers’ coupons can save you a ton of money on everyday products. However, these coupons must adhere to certain guidelines.

The store accepts coupons for free items, but not the ones printed off the internet. Coupons that are for dollar/cents off are accepted. They must have a valid remit address for the manufacturer, and should not be duplicated. You should also know that Walmart strictly honors the limits set by manufacturers.

I am a Wife, Mother of Three Children, and Caregiver to my Grandmother. I started couponing, with the direction of my Best Friend Christina. She showed me the “Ins and Outs” and total benefits of using coupons. In just a few months of couponing I was able to produce a stock-pile of Diapers, wipes and other Toiletries. I can remember thinking to myself that I was a fool, paying full price for things like Toothpaste when you can get it for Free. After couponing for 5 years now, I have saved my family hundreds of dollars a month. We no longer need to run to the store if we run out of toilet paper, toothpaste, etc. After years of experience, I wanted to be able to share it with other people and help them also save money.
